Valerie Vigoda is a live-looping, electric violinist, singer/songwriter, and a founding member of the band GrooveLily. She has toured the world with Cyndi Lauper, Joe Jackson and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and is now touring the solo, multimedia, music concert Just Getting Good.

Valerie studied at Princeton University and has taught at Stanford University, Emerson College, and the Berklee College of Music. She has co-written songs for Disney’s Tinker Bell movies as well as the scores for ten stage stage musicals which have been produced from McCarter Theatre to Off-Broadway. Valerie won the Jonathan Larson Award, the LA Ovation Award for Best Musical, and the ASCAP Richard Rodgers award.

“I could not be more delighted and thrilled to be joining the EYS team of artist mentors! Connecting young string players to the exuberance of making music, bringing high-octane performance energy into the room with an emphasis on listening, connection and joy…this is the kind of string pedagogy I wish I had received when I was a student, and that I believe in with all my heart and soul. As a musical-theatre artist, indie rocker and live-looping performer, I get to come to EYS and remind young people how magnificent it feels to make music on a visceral level; I can’t think of a more worthy endeavor.”

Valerie lives in LA with her 10-year-old son Mose.

“Val lit up our classroom with tales from her career… offering incisive and much appreciated feedback. The students seemed mesmerized by her and the visit was nothing less than inspirational.” ~ Michael Wartofsky, Professor, Berklee College of Music

“Val is terrific in the classroom. Her ability to convey with passion and clarity what it takes to make it as an artist out in the world is an invaluable contribution… [She is] the ideal guest artist.” ~ Polly Carl, PhD, Associate Vice President, Emerson College

“Contemporary… intrepid… inspired… [and] unconventional.” ~ The New York Times
